Hello, Stable Dwellers! This is your Overmare speaking. We hope you've been enjoying Wave 6 of Ashes of Equestria. If you haven't yet checked it out, you can head HERE and download for yourself. But work continues on for the next wave, and we're happy to announce the first development build release for Wave 7.

As a reminder, as noted in previous blog posts, this is part of our new development process to release regular builds to players while we continue to work towards a final release.

With that said you can download Dev Build 1 via the links below, now introducing Linux and Mac support:

Ashes Wave 7 Dev Build 1 - Windows Client Download

Ashes Wave 7 Dev Build 1 - Linux Client Download

Ashes Wave 7 Dev Build 1 - Mac Client Download

Note 27/09/2026: We are aware of performance and crashing issues in relation to the Mac Client. We are looking into it, but please be warned. The Windows and Linux Clients are unaffected so far.

Wave 7 Development Build 1 Features

Check out our Wave 7 Dev Build 1 feature video to get an overview of what to expect in his build:

Want to learn more? Then read on as we highlight some notable changes and features in this development build:

Revamped Player Movement

We have introduced a revamped player movement and controller system into Dev Build 1. In addition, your pony now has head tracking, looking at any notable items or nearby enemies as well as new turning animations. We hope this will make traversing the wasteland more immersive and less frustrating.

We even included the ability to sit down and melee punch your opponents when you have no weapons equipped.

Work is not done however, as we have more improvements to the movement system to come, but we will discuss these at a later date.

Liquid Simulation in Bottles

We've added a new liquid shader to some of our bottles that react realistically depending on how you interact with it. Some might even fizzle. So now Spev's special Sparkle Cola will feel even more "special" this time around.

Character Creator Profile Support

The character creator also got some fixes and small updates, including the implementation of reusable character profiles. Now you can save the appearance, colour, gender and initial SPECIAL/Skill choices to files, so you don't have to keep remaking your pony every time. Just select the saved profiles from the drop down menu and viola.

In addition, the character creator also has a few smaller features, such as the pony now tracking your mouse. Also, try booping.

Linux & Mac Support

We've added preliminary support for Linux and Mac platforms for the first time. Now you can select either the Windows, Linux or Mac build on our download page.

We hope to gather your feedback so we can optimise our builds going forward, and increase our platform compatibility such as....

Steam Deck & Legion Go Support

As a consequence of our expanded Linux support, we now have the game working on the Steam Deck and the Lenovo Legion Go with full controller support. Now you can play Ashes on the Go, on the Legion Go (insert laugh here).

Like the Linux and Mac platforms, we are still early in development, so we would appreciate any feedback you can provide if you play on these devices including how to best take advantage of both devices.

To install the game onto either the Steam Deck or the Legion Go, download the Linux client directly from the device, or transfer it from your computer. Extract the folder, then from the Steam Client, select "Add a Non-Steam Game".

You will need to select the "Browse" button and then navigate to the extracted folder and select the executable "Ashes.sh".

Once selected, you can click on the "Add Selected Program" button. This will add the game into your Steam Library. From there you can return to Steam's main game mode and boot the game up from the new shortcut.

AI, Performance Improvements & Bugfixes

Thanks to your feedback from Wave 6, we continue to hammer down on numerous bugs and glitches players have encountered, both externally and internally with our QA team. Notable fixes include:

  • Fixed pony movement, turning, and model alignment issues, including unintended sideways/backwards AI movement.
  • Numerous big fixes in relation to NPC Enemy movement, combat and idle jitter, making them respond better to player interaction.
  • Weapon fixes like Hunting Shotgun casing ejection and mines not triggered by Timberwolves.
  • Fixes to conversations, old dialogue and subtitles.
  • UI and HUD element fixes such as fading dialogue and invisible choices and HUD icons.
  • Pony fixes such as lost manes and incorrect eye highlights. NPC's like SPEV are also fixed from standing up or drifting from its position.
  • Fixed memory leaks and memory-access issues, reduced memory use, and improved performance across repeated New Games.
  • Extensive miscellaneous improvements to performance and memory usage.

You can find all of the bug fixes, as well as still outstanding known issues in our Readme file.

Other Improvements

There are also a number of other improvements we would like to highlight, including:

  • Smoother routes for NPC movement.
  • Added missing effects to various consumable items.
  • New death cameras that follow the character's head.
  • Added live previews for quality settings.
  • New sensitivity settings in controls and movement slowdown button.
  • Improved combat-music transitions and timing. Combat music and the sneak indicator now reflect enemies detecting the player.

We hope you enjoy Wave 7 Dev Build 1 and the work we have put into creating this slice of the Equestrian Wasteland. If you have feedback for us, or just want to tell us about your adventures in the game, you can tell us via our feedback form or on our Discord Channel:

Wave 7 Development Build 2 Preview

With Dev Build 1 now out, work continues to our next milestones which we will reveal more in due course. However, we did want to show off one thing; Stable 2.

Home to our main character and the beginning of their story before venturing out of the great Wasteland, Stable 2 is an important first step for both the Stable Dweller and you, the player.

Getting this location correct is important for both narrative and gameplay purposes. From a player perspective, it is your introduction to the world of Fallout Equestria and life as a Stable Dweller. It is here where we will tutorialise you on the various gameplay mechanics and role-playing options we want you to experience.

The Stable itself is a place many fans have been wanting to see and explore, and to interact with its various inhabitants. As such, work was done to establish its own styling that reflected the juxtaposition of Vaults and ponies fused together.

We still have plenty of work to be done however; finalising the Stable 2 layout, map detailing and numerous bugs to be fixed, not to mention work on its inhabitants, tutorials and other features. We weren't quite ready to share this with Dev Build 1, so we hope you can be patient with us.

Development of a game of our scope takes time and talent, and we are always on the lookout for new members to join our ranks at Overmare Studios.
